The Breast Imaging Department Manager oversees the operations of the breast imaging department with a focus on:
- Process improvements
- Enhancing radiologist efficiency
- Ensuring exceptional patient care
This role collaborates with the Director of Breast Imaging, radiologists, and the scheduling manager to optimize workflows, increase productivity, and maintain a high-quality patient experience.
Key Responsibilities
Process Improvement & Workflow Optimization (30%)
- Lead initiatives to streamline department operations, reduce bottlenecks, and improve efficiency.
- Implement technologies or processes to enhance coordination among staff, patients, and radiologists.
Radiologist Efficiency & Support (25%)
- Act as the primary liaison for radiologists, ensuring efficient use of their time.
- Prioritize urgent cases, facilitate communication with clinical staff, and optimize schedules for rapid report turnaround.
Scheduling Coordination (15%)
- Collaborate with the scheduling manager to ensure smooth patient appointments and balanced assignments.
- Identify and resolve scheduling challenges to improve patient care and radiologist productivity.
Department Leadership (15%)
- Guide and support the breast imaging team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth.
- Ensure all staff contribute to efficient operations and uphold high patient care standards.
Biopsy Tracking & MQSA Compliance (10%)
- Maintain compliance with MQSA requirements, tracking biopsy recommendations and follow-ups.
- Coordinate with radiologists, pathologists, and referring physicians for timely communication of biopsy results.
Patient Care & Communication (5%)
- Serve as the primary contact for patients, providing clear and compassionate information on imaging results, follow-ups, and next steps.
- Support radiologists and clinical staff with administrative tasks and cross-department collaboration.
- Manage a team of 5–10 breast navigators and support staff.
Requirements
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Additional education in healthcare management or a related field preferred.
Experience:
- 3–5 years in breast imaging or breast navigation roles preferred.
- Leadership or management experience strongly preferred.
Skills:
- Proven ability to drive process improvements and enhance healthcare efficiency.
- Strong collaboration skills for cross-departmental coordination.
- Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities to manage complex workflows.
- Proficiency in mammography equipment, PACS systems, and electronic health records.
- Knowledge of breast cancer screening processes and MQSA regulations.
Physical & Schedule Requirements:
- Extended periods of sitting and standing.
- Ability to lift objects up to 20 lbs occasionally.
- Standard hours with flexibility for evenings and weekends as needed.
